PERFUME 101

LAKESIDE FRAGRANCE

AS A SMALL NICHE PERFUMER, IT IS ESSENTIAL TO HIGHLIGHT THE PROCESS OF PERFUME CREATION IS A DELICATE BALANCE BETWEEN SCIENTIFIC KNOWLEDGE AND ARTISTIC EXPRESSION.

EACH SCENT WE CREATE IS A LABOR OF LOVE AND OUR DEDICATION TO THE CRAFT OF PERFUME-MAKING ENSURES THAT EVERY FRAGRANCE WE PRODUCE IS A DISTINCTIVE WORK OF ART, REFLECTING OUR PASSION FOR CREATING EXCEPTIONAL SCENTS.

WE STRIVE TO GO BEYOND THE ORDINARY, EXPLORING INNOVATIVE COMBINATIONS AND TELLING A UNIQUE STORY;  A SYMPHONY OF CAREFULLY CHOSEN NOTES THAT RESONATE WITH INDIVIDUALS ON A DEEPLY PERSONAL LEVEL.

WE PRIDE OURSELVES ON OUR ABILITY TO CREATE EXCEPTIONAL FRAGRANCES THAT CAPTURE THE ESSENCE OF INDIVIDUALITY AND CATER TO THE DISCERNING TASTES OF FRAGRANCE CONNOISSEURS.

PERFUMERY

PERFUME IS AN ARTFUL COMPOSITION CREATED BY COMBINING VARIOUS AROMATIC INGREDIENTS TO PRODUCE A UNIQUE AND PLEASING FRAGRANCE. THE PROCESS OF CLASSIC PERFUME MAKING INVOLVES SEVERAL KEY STEPS.

  1. BLENDING: PERFUMERS SKILLFULLY BLEND VARIOUS AROMATIC COMPONENTS TO ACHIEVE THE DESIRED FRAGRANCE PROFILE. PRECISE MEASUREMENTS AND RATIOS OF EACH INGREDIENT ARE CRUCIAL TO MAINTAIN THE DESIRED BALANCE AND OLFACTORY HARMONY. PERFUMERS OFTEN CREATE MULTIPLE TRIAL BLENDS TO FINE-TUNE THE SCENT.

  2. DILUTION AND AGING: ONCE THE FRAGRANCE BLEND IS FINALIZED, IT IS DILUTED WITH ALCOHOL OR A MIXTURE OF ALCOHOL AND WATER TO ACHIEVE THE DESIRED CONCENTRATION. THE PERFUME MIXTURE IS THEN ALLOWED TO MATURE AND AGE FOR A CERTAIN PERIOD, TYPICALLY SEVERAL MONTHS.  AGING ALLOWS THE DIFFERENT FRAGRANCE COMPONENTS TO HARMONIZE, RESULTING IN A MORE REFINED SCENT.

  3. FILTERING AND BOTTLING: AFTER THE AGING PROCESS, THE PERFUME IS FILTERED TO REMOVE ANY IMPURITIES OR SEDIMENT. THE FILTERED PERFUME IS THEN CAREFULLY POURED INTO APPROPRIATE BOTTLES, WHICH ARE OFTEN DESIGNED FOR MARKETING.

PERFUME OR COLOGNE?

EAU DE PARFUM (EDP) OR EAU DE COLOGNE (EDC) REFERS ONLY TO THE CONCENTRATION LEVEL OF FRAGRANCE OILS IN A PERSONAL FRAGRANCE, AND AS SUCH, IT CAN BE USED FOR BOTH MEN’S AND WOMEN’S FRAGRANCES.

THE TERMS “COLOGNE” AND “PERFUME” ARE OFTEN USED COLLOQUIALLY TO DISTINGUISH BETWEEN FRAGRANCES MARKETED TOWARDS MEN AND WOMEN, RESPECTIVELY.

GENERALLY, THE CLASSIFICATION OF A SCENT AS MASCULINE OR FEMININE IS DETERMINED BY THE SPECIFIC NOTES, INGREDIENTS, MARKETING, AND CULTURAL ASSOCIATIONS SURROUNDING THE FRAGRANCE.

FRAGRANCE PREFERENCES ARE ENTIRELY SUBJECTIVE, AND INDIVIDUALS HAVE THE FREEDOM TO WEAR ANY SCENT THEY PERSONALLY ENJOY! THE CHOICE OF FRAGRANCE IS A PERSONAL EXPRESSION OF ONE’S UNIQUE TASTE AND STYLE.

WHETHER IT’S A FRAGRANCE MARKETED TOWARDS MEN, WOMEN, OR CONSIDERED UNISEX, WHAT TRULY MATTERS IS THE INDIVIDUAL’S PERSONAL CONNECTION AND ENJOYMENT OF THE SCENT.

SO, EMBRACE THE FREEDOM TO EXPLORE AND WEAR ANY FRAGRANCE THAT RESONATES WITH YOU, ALLOWING YOUR UNIQUE PERSONALITY AND PREFERENCES TO GUIDE YOUR CHOICE.

CONCENTRATION MATTERS

PERFUMES COME IN DIFFERENT CONCENTRATIONS THAT DETERMINE THEIR INTENSITY, LONGEVITY, AND OVERALL STAYING POWER. THE MOST COMMON CONCENTRATIONS ARE EAU DE PARFUM (EDP), EAU DE TOILETTE (EDT), EAU DE COLOGNE (EDC), AND PERFUME EXTRACT.

WHEN CREATING OUR PERFUMES, WE PRIORITIZE EAU DE PARFUM (EDP) CONCENTRATION TO ENSURE A LONGER-LASTING SCENT THAT CAPTIVATES AND ENHANCES YOUR EXPERIENCE THROUGHOUT THE DAY.

WITH ITS RICH AND COMPLEX AROMA, EDP PROVIDES AN ENDURING FRAGRANCE JOURNEY THAT LINGERS BEAUTIFULLY ON YOUR SKIN BUT IS NOT OVERPOWERING.

  • EAU DE PARFUM (EDP):   EAU DE PARFUM IS RENOWNED FOR ITS LONG-LASTING SCENT COMPARED TO OTHER TYPES.  WITH A CONCENTRATION OF 15% TO 20% FRAGRANCE OILS, EDP OFFERS A RICH, COMPLEX AROMA THAT LINGERS ON THE SKIN FOR SEVERAL HOURS, GRADUALLY REVEALING DIFFERENT NOTES. ITS HIGHER CONCENTRATION MAKES EDP MORE EXPENSIVE THAN EDT OR EDC.

  • EAU DE TOILETTE (EDT):  EAU DE TOILETTE IS A LIGHTER CONCENTRATION THAN EAU DE PARFUM, TYPICALLY CONTAINING 5% TO 15% FRAGRANCE OILS. EDT SCENTS ARE FRESH, LIGHT, AND PERFECT FOR EVERYDAY WEAR. WHILE NOT AS LONG-LASTING AS EDP, EDT FRAGRANCES ENDURE FOR SEVERAL HOURS BEFORE REQUIRING REAPPLICATION.

  • EAU DE COLOGNE (EDC):  EAU DE COLOGNE IS A LESS CONCENTRATED FRAGRANCE OPTION WITH AROUND 2% TO 4% FRAGRANCE OILS. EDCS ARE KNOWN FOR THEIR REFRESHING, CITRUSY, AND INVIGORATING QUALITIES. DUE TO THEIR LIGHTER NATURE, EDC SCENTS GENERALLY LAST FOR A SHORTER DURATION, OFTEN A COUPLE OF HOURS.

  • PERFUME EXTRACT (EXTRAIT DE PARFUM):  PERFUME EXTRACT, ALSO KNOWN AS EXTRAIT DE PARFUM, BOASTS THE HIGHEST CONCENTRATION OF FRAGRANCE. WITH 20% TO 40% OR HIGHER FRAGRANCE OILS, PERFUME EXTRACTS PROVIDE A HIGHLY POTENT AND LONG-LASTING SCENT EXPERIENCE. ONLY A SMALL AMOUNT IS NEEDED FOR AN INTENSE AND LINGERING FRAGRANCE THAT CAN LAST AN ENTIRE DAY OR MORE.

IT IS IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTAND THAT FACTORS BEYOND CONCENTRATION, SUCH AS THE QUALITY OF INGREDIENTS, THE SPECIFIC FORMULATION, AND INDIVIDUAL BODY CHEMISTRY, WILL INFLUENCE A PERFUME’S LONGEVITY AND SILLAGE (THE EXTENT TO WHICH THE FRAGRANCE LINGERS IN THE AIR).
